The Evolution of Volleyball Rules
Volleyball has undergone many rule changes since its invention. Originally, there was no limit to the number of players per team. In 1916, the spike was introduced in the Philippines, changing offensive play. The three-hit rule was officially adopted in 1920, making rallies more structured. The libero position was introduced in 1998 to improve defensive strategies. In 1999, rally scoring replaced side-out scoring, making games faster. The net height has remained mostly unchanged, but small adjustments have been made. Video challenges were introduced to ensure fair officiating. Beach volleyball rules differ slightly, with only two players per team. The game has become faster and more competitive over time. These changes have made volleyball more exciting for players and fans.
